Under the Skin Camera Club | 2017 - 2019
Chaidh am pròiseact seo a thòiseachadh agus a stiùireadh leam fhìn agus le Solvejg Craig, nuair a bha sinn ag obair aig Ionad Achadh na Creige san Òban. Bha daoine bhon choimhearsnachd air beàrn aithneachadh sa bhaile a thaobh dhealbh-thogalach chruthachail, seach teicnigeach, agus bha ùidh aig daoine ann am buidheann sòisealta a stèidheachadh, a bhiodh ag obair ann an dòigh neo-fhoirmeil.
Bha cuid mhath den obair a' feuchainn ri coimhead air an Òban tro lens eadar-dhealaichte, a’ leigeil dhinn sealladh turasachd agus a’ coimhead fo uachdair an àite.
Bhon toiseach, ’s iad na buill fhèin a bha a’ stiùireadh na buidhne, ag ainmeachadh nan cuspairean agus nan ‘dùbhlan’ air am biodh am buidheann ag amas gach cola-deug. Cuideachd, dhealbhaich iad mar bhuidheann trì taisbeanaidhean poblach, le ealamaidean com-pàirteachaidh, ’s sin a’ toirt a-steach coimhearsnachd nas farsainn.
Under the Skin Camera Club | 2017 - 2019
I initiated and led this project with Solvejg Craig when we were both working at The Rockfield Centre in Oban. Some individuals in the community had identified a gap locally regarding creative photography, rather than the more technical side, and there was an appetite for establishing a social group that would work in an informal way.
Much of the work involved looking at our surroundings in and around Oban through a different lens, shaking off the tourist gaze and getting under the skin of the place.
From the start, it was the members themselves who led the group, identifying the subjects and ‘challenges’ that the group would attempt every fortnight. The group also designed and ran three public exhibitions with participatory elements, involving the wider community.
